Ilchester History Group

We meet about once a month in the Museum for an informal chat.  Normally we talk abut one aspect of the Ilchester story, and then we discuss what projects we can do, what speakers we might invite, etc.

Our motto is Sed non in omnibus ad Romanos which roughly translates as  ‘so, it’s not all about the Romans’.  We look back to the earliest archaeology but we also want to bring history right up to date, and some of our members are keen to document recent memorabilia and photos for future generations to enjoy.

To find out  more about the History Group and our meeting dates, send us an email - see the Contact Us page.

Francis Burroughes follows up on his very well received  2016 talk on the history of glass from prehistoric times, concentrating on recent glass artefacts. On 31 August at 7pm you can enjoy about an hour and a half holding, touching and marvelling at  some beautiful glass creations, to the background of Franc is’s humorous and  knowledgeable commentary. Tickets £3 from London House (the old post office).

Apart from the talks you will be very well looked after: lunch will consist of a main and dessert course with a choice of delicious dishes and a vegetarian option. If you need any further encouragement, note that Julie is the chef du jour!
